Six Garden Beauties

Longwood has a rich history. It was once the home of the Lenni Lenape tribe and Quaker farmers. Purchased in 1906 by Pierre S. du Pont, Longwood gradually became a paradigm for horticultural practices. Eventually, inspiring “people through excellence in garden design, horticulture, education, and the arts” became its mission.

Located on US Route 1 in Pennsylvania, Longwood is organized into six districts that change seasonally. They include:

  1. Chimes Tower District
  2. Conservatory District
  3. House and Theater District
  4. Lakes District
  5. Main Fountain District
  6. Meadow and Forest District

Although every district has much to offer, the Chimes Tower, Conservatory, Lakes, and Main Fountain districts are my favorites.
